BACKGROUND

Warehousing is the process of storing goods or products within a designated space, until they are needed for use. This involves the management and control of inventory, as well as transportation, to ensure that goods are properly stored and organised for efficient retrieval and distribution. Warehousing plays an important role in supply chain management, allowing businesses to optimise their operations by reducing inventory costs, maximising stock levels and improving product delivery times.

Managing a world-class warehouse is now recognized as a potentially major source of competitive advantage as opposed to just another source of cost before product reaches the customer. To achieve this competitive advantage, it is important to choose the right type of operation, processes and equipment, and then understand and continuously improve performance through appropriate measures and controls. “Warehouse Management” is a course that investigates warehouse functions, processes, organization and operations. We review an analysis of warehouse location, operation, management, controls, procedures, finance, security, cargo/materials handling, and productivity.

The American Academy Certified International Warehouse Manager (CIWM) Certification is an ideal choice for candidates looking forward to starting their careers as the warehouse managers. The CIWM certificate helps participants to gain the skills required to become a successful warehouse manager. With a primary focus on supply chain management, managing staff, health and safety, and running an efficient warehouse, it introduces the effective technological solutions that are used in modern warehouses.

To promote methods of approaching real‐world business problems, an integrated case study was developed for this course where participants analyze aspects of the warehouse management system and working in teams, the participants analyze customer, supplier and inventory data to recommend its warehouse layout, transportation system and carriers, and distribution center location as related to their industry

Participants will be expected to gain a working understanding of how to identify, reference and implement warehouse management and control policies, standards and related logistics operation standards. Regarding the latter, the objective is to learn how to identify and interpret the requirements of the standards and. implement the standards in the logistics process.
